We were incredibly fortunate to have our wedding at Rounton Farm in October 2014. The gorgeous setting, thoughtfully laid-out barn, relaxed but on-point owners, exceeded our expectations at every turn. Our vendors were all local small businesses, which we "found" independently (mostly from the Rounton website), and they put on a tremendous show. Shoutout to Paul at Real Food Catering, BBQ Exchange, Town Mountain Bluegrass Band, Kristin Moore Photography, and others. This is the perfect place for those who want a "do it yourself" rustic wedding near DC (but far from DC prices) without reinventing the wheel.

Our daughter and I chose Rounton Farm a year ago for the date of her wedding on Oct. 18 th, 2014. We were looking for a more authentic barn atmosphere for the event, rather than a large vineyard type venue. Although it would be held on a farm it was also going to be a formal event for a party of 160 guests.
The event turned out to be absolutely magical. There are a number of areas on the property for the ceremony depending on what you like and they are all pretty. The barn can be dressed up or down beautifully, depending on your tastes. We added a 20x20' tent and put it up against the large, side doors to accommodate the 6 piece band. This allowed for more dance space if your guest list is large.
Ellen who is the owner of Rounton cannot receive enough praise in my opinion. She was remarkable to work with.... professional, kind, flexible and willing to help us every step of the way. She made the entire day and weeks leading up to the wedding a breeze. (A calming influence indeed).
Her young male farm hands were also a real plus and delightful to work with if you need extra hands with set up and staging.

When I think about those days of preparation just before the wedding and the months leading up to it, I think of Ellen's indefatigable patience, helpfulness and generosity. She gave me confidence that the entire event would go well. I can't thank her enough for that. Her presence and character were "value added" to the actual physical beauty of the farm. Rounton Farm is a beautiful venue for a rustic wedding and was exactly what we were looking for. Ellen was so gracious and accomodating. She was very responsive to our needs, questions and concerns. Moreover she eased my stress level when we had the sudden weather change, switching plans to take the ceremony into the barn. I think I loved it even more indoors! Rounton Farm was the PERFECT place for us to get married!

Rounton Farm met our goals and expectations in every way! We visited several times after booking Rounton so we could try out many of our decorating ideas. Ellen accommodated our every wish and suggested many great local vendors which we were delighted to use. When our perfect June day arrived and we walked into the barn, it was exactly what we had imagined and just the feel we wanted. Our guests were surprised and impressed with the cleanliness and simple beauty of the barn. They enjoyed the freedom to visit the chickens, admire the horses, play corn hole, and toss a frisbee. It was a lovely day of celebrating, rejoicing, and sharing our love for Jordan and Anna at a venue that was perfect in both beauty and functionality. It was cloudy, it rained, it was perfect! From the very beginning Ellen and Rob were so gracious and accommodating with their beautifully maintained property. They were cool, laid back and really helped with the ceremony and reception ideas during our initial walk through. It is the little things, and not so little things that matter. When our guests started arriving and the rain started pouring down, they immediately offered to provide a valet service to every guest! This was not in the plan but was so appreciated by everyone. That day they also locally sourced paper mud-mats so that when guests got back into their cars after the wedding they wouldn't track in mud. This attention to detail was truly amazing. It just got better, with an amazing ceremony in the upper loft of the barn overlooking the property. The rain was actually perfect, as it kept everyone in the amazingly restored barn partying until the last minute! We wouldn't have been able to pull off such an amazing time in only 3 months without their help, and we couldn't have picked a better spot for this memory of a lifetime.

From the moment we drove up the driveway at Rounton, we knew it was the perfect place for the wedding of our dreams. It is the most idyllic and serene location we found in our extensive search for a venue! No matter where you are on the farm the views are incredible and the ambiance was perfect for our casual (but rowdy) summertime reception! Rob and Ellen were so accommodating with all of our requests. They were humble hosts who were so easy to work with and gave us great suggestions through the whole process.

The trees and surrounding grounds, feel ancient. The flower and vegetable gardens are natural and tended with care. Honey bees and foxes are at home here. When you're at Rounton, you feel like you are part of Americas past... and present. You will create lifelong memories here that won't happen anywhere else."

"Rounton Farm was an ideal place for our family reunion of about 150 people.
A beautiful setting and plenty of room to wander down the pathway out into the fields. Ellen and Rob have great contacts. The tent we rented was ample with tables for family gatherings and for bonding with cousins from different branches of the family. We had a dance floor and had square dancing with a caller. Young and old enjoyed the pool and enjoyed a dip especially after a round of volleyball on the sand court a few yards from the pool. A photographer we contacted recorded the event with pictures that still evoke happy memories. Caterers, wine merchants, even a 1st class portable bathroom with sink, all were available from local contacts. Some people even went to some of the sights nearby: Montpelier, President Madison's home and to the Barboursville Winery and Ruins. The farm is a place of relaxed elegance. We are planning another reunion soon!"

"Young Life loves Rounton Farm! We have hosted numerous events for high school kids, their parents, and for college volunteer leaders at the farm. Depending on our needs, the Piteras are always able to find us the perfect spot for the event. In the summer, we have enjoyed parties and camp reunions by the pool and this past winter Rob carved out long tracks in the snow down one of the steepest hills for a fantastic night of sledding. Most frequently with the high school kids we get to enjoy the frisbee golf course. Playing frisbee golf allows you to experience the beauty of the farm setting to the fullest as it spans across a great deal of land. My favorite event of the year that we host at the farm is a dinner party for 9th grade students. We gather in the shade of the front lawn of the house to share a meal as the sun sets behind the huge trees. It is an intimate spot, just perfect for a dinner party.
Rounton Farm is beautiful and perfect for every event we come up with, and that's a whole bunch!"
